My Cars

The "T"

• A 1921 Ford Model "T" Runabout, purchased locally in Ucon, Idaho the summer of 2000 and trailered home. This is a driveable "Original Unrestored Car" that had been in one family prior to my purchase. A really interesting car to drive!
  

  

  
  The Model "T" Ford was manufactured from 1909 to 1927. The car has a flat L head 4-cylinder 4 cycle engine with poured babbitt bearings supplied by splash lubrication (rod and main bearings) producing 20 brake HP. A two speed planetary pedal operated transmission is different than modern cars as neutral is in the middle position. Down for low and up for high with neutral in the middle! Shifting takes a little getting used to... A transmission band brake and 2 wheel lever actuated mechanical rear parking brake provide adequate stopping power from the normal speeds encountered. Cruise is about 30 mph. As built features include a magneto for operating the ignition and lights, a buzz box coil for each cylinder, oil side lights and manual hand crank for starting the engine. Lucky for me in 1921 electric start with generator and ampere meter was optional and is installed on this car. The optional quick change rims and tires were not installed so if I have a flat it's remove the tire and repair the leak then pump it up and continue! Much like a bicycle. After market equipment includes turn signals and brake lights! The runabout is only a two passenger vehicle and luggage goes on the running boards.

The "A"

• A 1930 Ford Model "A" Deluxe Coupe, purchased locally in Idaho Falls, Idaho the fall of 1993 and driven home. The attached blue picture was taken at the time of purchase. Now restored with a rumble seat in Chicle and Copra Drab colors with Straw trim and wheels. A real HOOT to drive!

• The Model "A" Ford was manufactured from 1928 to 1931. The early 1928 and 1929 models are slightly different from the more sporty 1930 and 1931 models. The car has a flat L head 4-cylinder 4 cycle engine with poured babbitt bearings supplied by partial pressurized (cam) and splash lubrication (rod and main bearings) producing 40 brake HP. A three speed sliding gear transmission on the floor was a big improvement on the planetary 2 speed transmission used in the earlier Model "T". No synchromesh in the transmission so it's double-clutch and jam! Shifting takes a little getting used to... 4 wheel mechanical brakes with separate rear parking brakes provide adequate stopping power from the normal speeds encountered. Cruise is about 45 mph. As built features include electric start, full exterior lights, and a drivers side windshield wiper. After market equipment includes turn signals and a hot air manifold heater make the car usable in all but the worst Idaho weather. The coupe is only a two passenger vehicle unless your mother-in-law wants to ride outside in the rumble seat... Burr!

Beulah

My first car!

• A 1947 Plymouth, Special Deluxe 4-Door sedan. We thought that "Beulah" was a fitting name. This car was purchased locally in August of 1987 and took 5 years of my time to complete. Winters are long in Idaho and provide the perfect time for this type of project. New pictures as of August 1997. Beulah was sold in 2000 when I purchased the Model "T" and now resides in Kanab, Utah

• Post war cars all look pretty much alike. Plymouth made cars for the working man. They are not fancy but are functional! 1946 through 1949 are the same car with minor changes. This car features an in line flat L head 6-cylinder engine with 217.8 cubic inches producing 95 brake Hp. The engine has full pressurized lubrication with an external bypass oil filter. We have vacuum wipers, two heaters; one for the driver and another for the passenger which also provides the defroster, inside door actuated dome lights, and a 3-speed transmission with the shift on the column. Note the aftermarket sun visor! Beulah will cruise at 65 mph and is easy to find in any parking lot!

  Beulah (Now Polly Plymouth) has a new home in Southern Utah and the new owners enjoy her very much. I wanted the Model T and had too many cars!

The Dodge PU






This is what it will look like when finished! Mom says Red body and black fenders will do. This is a 39 truck, our 46 has a little different grill and the head lights are on the peak of the fenders.



• A 1946 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup, purchased for the rebuilt engine for Beulah but it never got done and now Beulah has a new home. This truck was purchased locally in the spring of 1997 and will be my new project if and when money becomes available!. My wife found the looks very appealing and what was purchased for the engine now will be finished for driving. At this time the cab and chassis are done! Due to my ongoing lack of storage and continued disinterest in this truck I sold it this fall and it now resides in Council, ID.









• The Job-Rated Era of Dodge trucks runs from 1939 to 1947. These trucks have a distinctive body style (remarkably simular to the new ones) and are popular with collectors. This truck features an in line flat L head 6-cylinder engine with 217.8 cubic inches producing 95 brake Hp the same as Beulah. The engine has full pressurized lubrication and an external bypass oil filter. We have electric wipers, a heater, and a 4-speed transmission (granny gear) with the shift on the floor. The Dodge will cruise at 40-45 mph due to the low gearing of trucks in this time.

Manly transportation!!

We have a 1996 Dodge extended cab 1-ton dually with the Cummins Turbo Diesel. A friend (I wonder?) named it the WONTON! This truck is running great.
