PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke® 10W-40 Synthetic Scooter Oil (ASO) is formulated specifically to meet the special needs of today’s high-tech air- and water-cooled fourstroke motorized scooters, offering unsurpassed wear protection and friction reduction for longer equipment life and cooler operating temperatures. Its exceptional shear stability ensures consistent viscosity protection and provides additional protection for transmissions and gear boxes, while its friction modifier-free formulation ensures wet clutch compatibility and smooth clutch operation. A special anti-corrosion additive package provides long-term protection during periods of inactivity and storage.

Shear Stability
High engine rpms common to scooter applications increase shear, causing conventional lubricants to lose viscosity and reduce their ability to control wear, resulting in shorter engine life. The synthetic formulation of Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil effectively resists shear, delivering consistent viscosity protection for unsurpassed wear protection and extended equipment life.

Thermal Stability
The operating temperatures of scooter engines fluctuate greatly, especially with air-cooled engines. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil resists breakdown at elevated temperatures, maintaining its protective viscosity for maximum wear control.

Transmission and Gear Box Compatibility
In many scooter applications, the engine and transmission and/or gear box share the same oil reservoir. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is absolutely shear stable and will not thin out from mechanical activity, providing superior protection for transmissions and gear boxes.

Wet Clutch Compatibility
Some scooters utilize a frictional clutch to engage and disengage the engine from the drivetrain. In many cases, this clutch is immersed in the same oil used in the engine and transmission. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil contains no friction modifiers and is wet clutch compatible, offering smooth clutch operation and increased clutch life.

Rust and Corrosion Protection
Scooters are often subjected to extended periods of inactivity and storage, exposing the equipment to internal rust and corrosion. Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is formulated with a special anti-corrosion additive package designed to provide long-term protection during periods of inactivity and storage.

Applications and Recommendations

AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is recommended for use wherever SAE 10W-40 motor oil is specified in air- and watercooled four-stroke motorized scooter engines, transmissions and gear boxes that require the following:
  • API SG, SL/CF
  • JASO MA/MA2 (motorcycle wet clutch)
  • Engine manufacturers include, but are not limited to, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Yamaha, Vespa, Aprilia, Piaggio, Benelli, Vento, Kymco, Tank and TGB.
Service Life
Follow the equipment manufacturer’s recommended drain intervals.

Mixing AMSOIL
AMSOIL Formula 4-Stroke Synthetic Scooter Oil is compatible with conventional and synthetic motor oils. Mixing AMSOIL motor oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL motor oils.

EaAR Air Filters

EaAR Air Filters are specially designed for racing and street rod enthusiasts who desire Ea protection in carbureted applications. AMSOIL EaAR Air Filters are constructed with the same dedication to quality as all other Ea filters.

Expanded Applications
AMSOIL custom EaAR filter assemblies are designed with the racer in mind. They incorporate good looks and excellent air flow, as well as the high efficiency customers expect from Ea technology. These custom air cleaner assemblies are designed for use with carbureted engines that use a 14-inch round element air cleaner housing. The EaAR kits provide more air flow than other assemblies of this type. Kits feature the common 14- inch diameter carburetor plate, air filter and high air flow lid, and they come with a 2-inch, 3-inch, 4-inch, 5-inch or 6-inch-high filter to meet the needs of racers and enthusiasts. Replacement filters, air flow lids and carburetor plates are also available for purchase separately.

AMSOIL EaAR filter kits provide racers with more power through the new Ea air flow lids. Not only does the Ea air flow lid add filter area, it actually redirects airflow inside the filter to pull in more air through the side pleats for even greater performance efficiency. Cleanable and reusable, the AMSOIL Ea air flow lid delivers the best protection available for engines, and it comes in a wide range of applications. The air flow lids feature a polished aluminum trim ring with AMSOIL logos etched in the surface.

Filtration Technology
AMSOIL EaAR Air Filters are designed to replace stock cellulose, oil-wetted gauze or foam filters. AMSOIL EaAR Air Filters are composed of the same nanofiber media found in the AMSOIL Ea Air Filters for auto and light truck applications (EaA), Universal Cold Air Induction Filters (EaAU) and the AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Air Filters (EaAM). Nanofibers have sub-micron diameters and small inter-fiber spaces, resulting in more contaminants being captured on the surface of the media. Cellulose, wetted gauze and foam filters are larger and have larger spaces between the media, causing contaminants to load into the depth of the filter, plugging the airflow path and resulting in higher restriction and lower capacity. The nanofibers found in the AMSOIL EaAR Air Filters are less than one micron in diameter and because of their size, there are more pores per square inch (higher pore density), allowing for higher dirt-holding capacity and lower pressure drop when compared to traditional filter media. Thinner media fibers, like those in the EaAR Air Filters, produce more uniform pore size distribution, improving the filter’s overall availability to capture and retain particles.

Filter Construction
The nanofiber media is pleated with epoxy-coated wire on the media for additional strength and stiffness. A high-quality plastisol potting compound is used to ensure filter media and screen stability while sealing the filter in the air box. The EaAR filtration system allows air to flow through the side for traditional filtering and offers additional filter area by allowing air to flow through the nanofiber media on the top lid, adding greater performance and superior efficiency.

Quick Cleaning
AMSOIL EaAR Air Filters are cleanable and long lasting. AMSOIL recommends cleaning EaAR Air Filters when designated by the restriction gauge if the vehicle is so equipped, or according to operating conditions. In dusty conditions or in high-performance vehicles, more frequent cleaning may be required. EaAR Air Filters may be cleaned by vacuuming the media on the dirty side or using low pressure shop air to blow the filter media on the clean side. AMSOIL recommends cleaning EaAR filters as conditions dictate.

P.I. Gasoline Additive

Newly reformulated AMSOIL P.I. (Performance Improver) provides unsurpassed fuel economy and performance. Today’s fuels vary in quality and additive treat levels. Although a certain level of detergent additive is required by law to be formulated into gasoline, cost restrictions cause refineries to use low quality additives in the lowest additive concentration (LAC), a level insufficient to prevent deposit accumulation. As a result, deposits accumulate on fuel injectors, intake valves and combustion chambers, often within just a few thousand miles, disrupting spray patterns, affecting electronic sensors and causing a multitude of problems.

The newly formulated AMSOIL P.I. Performance Improver is the most potent gasoline additive available today. As a concentrated detergent, it is unsurpassed in cleaning combustion chamber deposits, intake valve deposits and port fuel injector deposits, eliminating the need for expensive fuel injector cleaning procedures. The product is ideal for use prior to emissions inspections. It also helps maintain peak engine efficiency, fuel economy, power and drivability in newer low mileage engines. In engines with accumulated deposits, testing showed AMSOIL P.I. provided the following clean-up benefits after only one tank of gasoline:

Usage Recommendations: Treat one full tank of gas every 4,000 miles or 100 hours of service. One bottle treats 20 gallons of gas. Do not treat and run more than 40 gallons of gas per treatment. P.I. helps pass emissions tests. Treat gas, run that tank and fill up again prior to test. Safe for use with catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, oxygenated gas and 10% ethanol blended gas. Ideally, P.I. should be poured into the tank prior to filling it up with gas, but it will mix thoroughly when added after fill-up through normal agitation from driving.

100% Synthetic 0W-20 Motor Oil

Severe Gear 75W-110 Synthetic Gear Lube

AMSOIL INC. of Superior, WI has announced the addition of 75W-110 Severe Gear Synthetic Gear Lube to its strong line of AMSOIL Severe Gear Extreme Pressure Synthetic Gear Lubes. AMSOIL Severe Gear Synthetic Gear Lubes feature an exclusive blend of high viscosity, shear stable synthetic base oils and an extra treatment of high-performance additives. They are engineered to protect gears better than conventional gear oils, resisting acid, carbon and varnish formation and oxidative breakdown.

The new viscosity gear lube grade that fills the gap between the 75W-90 and 75W-140 viscosity gear lubes that most people are accustomed to using. Many used the 75W-140 to obtain extra film protection beyond what the 75W-90 viscosity grade offered for their differentials, but found that they sacrificed fuel economy by doing so. This new viscosity grade, 75W-110, offers a high temperature film protection beyond what a 75W-90 offers, without compromising fuel economy. This new mid-range viscosity grade for gear lubes addresses performance, protection and fuel economy.

Because today's vehicles have seen tremendous gains in both horsepower and towing limits, greater stress is placed on differentials and drivetrain components. In fact, horsepower has increased by as much as 93 percent in turbo diesel trucks, and vehicle towing limits have increased from 7,500 to 18,000 lbs in recent years.

Diesel Concentrate and Cold Flow Improver

AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate (ADF) provides maximum diesel operating efficiency. It compensates for the variances in quality of different fuels (including biodiesel) and the deficiencies of today's Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel (ULSD) for better engine operation. New engine technology, tighter tolerances and emission regulations require high-quality diesel fuel for long-term engine operability. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate meets the low sulfur mandate. It improves diesel fuel quality to exceed today's stringent performance requirements. AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate extends equipment life, lowers operating costs and improves diesel performance.

Improves Fuel Economy and Restores Horsepower
As diesel engines are used, they become less efficient over time. Fuel injector deposits interrupt spray patterns, causing poor fuel atomization, incomplete combustion, excessive emissions and smoke. Tests prove that AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate cleans dirty injectors, improving fuel economy by up to five percent and restoring horsepower to like new. Acceleration is improved and with regular use, AMSOIL Diesel Concentrate continues to enhance performance by keeping injectors clean. The net savings on fuel expense can result in no additional cost to vehicle operation.

Lubricates Fuel Pump and Injectors
Ultra low sulfur diesel fuel has significantly reduced lubricity – a critical property in controlling wear in fuel pumps and injectors. Nanofiber Basics
Because the nanofibers in AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Air Filter media are so small, there are more pores per square inch, allowing for higher dirt-holding capacity and lower pressure drop compared to traditional filter medias. Thinner media fibers produce more uniform pore size distribution, improving the filter’s overall ability to capture and retain particles.

Air Filtration Basics
An engine requires air for combustion, but the air drawn in through the induction system is loaded with contaminants. There are over 400 tons of suspended dirt and other contaminants in a cubic mile of air over a typical city. The concentration can be even higher in rural areas where there is frequent travel on unpaved roads. The dirt and contaminants drawn into an engine from the air are the leading causes of engine wear.

The function of the air filter is to trap and hold these wear causing contaminants without restricting air flow. As the filter traps more and more contaminants, air flow becomes restricted, smothering the engine and diminishing performance. The more wear causing contaminants a filtration media traps and holds, while still allowing optimum air flow, the better the filtration media.

The nanofiber technology used in AMSOIL Ea Filters surpasses all other technology in efficiency, capacity and service life. With AMSOIL Ea Air Filters, dust and submicron particles remain on the surface and are trapped in the nanofibers, preventing particles from lodging in the filter media depth. This produces higher efficiency and higher capacity, extending engine and filter life and reducing engine wear.

Ea Motorcycle Air Filters
The filtration media in the Ea Motorcycle Air Filter is pleated and has epoxy-coated wire on the face and back of the media for additional strength and stiffness. High quality plastisol potting compounds bond the pleat packs to the plastic or aluminum side plates. The S&S (aftermarket engine and carburetor manufacturer) style round filters are manufactured with high-quality plastisol that bonds the media to the wire backing and sealing area.

Superior Filtration

Cleaning Instructions
AMSOIL Ea Motorcycle Air Filters are cleaned in the same manner as AMSOIL Ea Air Filters for cars and light trucks: with a vacuum or shop air. To clean with a vacuum, place the filter on a flat surface and carefully vacuum the filter media on the dirty side where the incoming airflow enters the filter. To clean with shop air, hold the filter with one hand and carefully blow the filter media at a 45-degree angle on the clean side of the filter using low-pressure (15 to 20 psi) shop air. Using too much air pressure will damage the filter media.

Oil Filtration Basics
Clean oil is vital to engine performance and durability. Oil must lubricate, cool and clean the engine as it circulates. In order to remain effective, it must be filtered as it cycles. The filter is connected to the engine sump, which contains the oil pump. Full-flow filters pass all the oil output from the pump through the filter.
The function of the oil filter is to remove the contaminants introduced into the lubricating oil and prevent them from reaching sensitive engine parts without restricting normal oil flow to the various points requiring lubrication. Internal sources of contamination include wear products from the rubbing surfaces of the engine, blow-by gases leaking past the rings of the pistons and degradation of the oil itself. A filter must perform well in the areas of efficiency, capacity, flow and life.

In an effort to continually enhance the AMSOIL product line, new technologies are evaluated to provide the best products for AMSOIL Dealers and customers. Consequently, AMSOIL is now offering new by-pass filters from its revolutionary Ea line of filtration products.

AMSOIL EaBP Filters are high efficiency by-pass filters that also remove soot.

AMSOIL EaBP Filters are superior to AMSOIL BE by-pass Filters in several key areas.

Higher Efficiency
AMSOIL EaBP Filters have an efficiency of 98.7 percent at two microns, compared to the AMSOIL BE Filters’ 98.6 percent efficiency at three microns. At normal operating RPMs the EaBP Filter will filter all of the oil in a typical five quart sump in less than 10 minutes.

Superior Construction
The superior construction of AMSOIL EaBP Filters provides better sealing and increased longevity along with superior corrosion resistance. AMSOIL EaBP Filters have a marine powder coated exterior. Their zinc-dichromate base plates increase rust protection, and they feature the same dimensions and threads as BE-90, BE-100 and BE-110, so they are compatible with existing AMSOIL by-pass filter mounts. EaBP Filters have a nitrile HNBR gasket and an orange silicone anti-drain valve. The two stage pleated and layered cellulose/full synthetic media has an efficiency rating of 98.7 percent at two microns.

Longer Lasting
When used in conjunction with AMSOIL motor oil and an AMSOIL EaO or Donaldson Endurance™ filter, the EaBP should be changed every other full-flow filter change up to 60,000 miles. When used with other brands of motor oil or full-flow filters, the EaBP filter should be changed every other full-flow filter change. AMSOIL recommends using oil analysis when extending oil drain intervals.

Increased Oil Capacity
The increased fluid system capacity and filtration life provides improved oil cooling and ensures that equipment constantly runs on clean oil. Engine efficiency is increased and engine life is extended significantly.

Soot Removal
AMSOIL has designed a new high-efficiency by-pass filter element that is also a soot removal device. AMSOIL Ea by-pass Filters use a synthetic/cellulose sandwiched media. The inner layer of the element is composed of a highly efficient cellulose media covered with a full synthetic media outer layer. These filters remove 39 percent of soot contaminants less than one micron. Soot removal efficiency increases approximately 10 to 14 percent when the EaBP Filter is used in conjunction with a standard full-flow filter, even higher in conjunction with Ea Oil Filters or Donaldson Endurance filters.

The Dangers of Soot
The combustion process of diesel engines creates soot. After fuel is injected, combustion occurs with elevated soot levels as a byproduct of the process, and the combustion particulates become trapped on the exposed oil film. The rings wipe the particulates into the oil and the fine particulates aggregate, increasing levels of soot in the oil.

Oil with dispersant additives will generally keep sootin the range of 0.002 to 0.5 microns in suspension; detergent additives prevent the build-up of sludge and act as an acid neutralizer, keeping soot in the range of 0.5 to 1.5 microns in suspension. These anti-wear additives work by providing a sacrificial chemical-to-chemical barrier. As the amount of soot suspended in the oil increases, the performance of these additives decreases.

Soot Causes Wear
As an oil’s soot dispersant additive level increases, wear reducing additives become less effective. This creates a direct linear correlation between wear and soot concentration; the higher the concentration of soot, the higher the level of wear. Today’s oil manufacturers are extending oil life by holding higher concentrations of contaminants, including soot, in suspension in the oil. They are also increasing fuel economy by reducing oil viscosity and oil film thickness. Therefore, even smaller sized contaminents are becoming critical in items in terms of creating wear. This further necessitates the use of by-pass filtration, especially in diesel engines.

EaBP Vital Statistics
AMSOIL will continue to offer three by-pass filters: the EaBP90, EaBP100 and EaBP110. All vehicles and applications that can accept the AMSOIL BMK11, 12, 13, 15, 16, 17 and 18 filter mounts can use the EaBP Filters. Per AMSOIL by-pass installation instructions, AMSOIL recommends by-pass filters be mounted as close to vertical as possible. The filters are equipped with an anti-drain back valve in the event they are mounted at an angle.

Who Uses by-pass Filtration?
by-pass filtration comes standard on all heavy-duty turbo diesel engine applications from OEMs such as Cummins, Mack and many more. It has been available as standard equipment or as an option from OEMs like Caterpillar, John Deere, Case and others, but it isn’t just for heavy-duty diesel operators. by-pass filtration is a valuable commodity for anyone that wants to extend drain intervals and prolong engine life. A History of Excellence

AMSOIL now carries a retrofit air induction system kit for Ford truck owners who operate their vehicles in dirty or dusty conditions. Biggest benefits include:

The new air induction system brings better performance to Ford owners. Diesel engines need clean, unrestricted air for optimal performance. The new Donaldson 7.3L PowerStroke Diesel air induction system with PowerCore technology provides better air filtration through better engineering.

The PowerCore Air Induction System (PCIS73) replaces the present air intake system and utilizes a Donaldson PowerCore filter to provide unmatched performance and filtering efficiency on 1999 through 2003 model year F-250 to F-550 Super Duty trucks and SUVs with 7.3L PowerStroke Diesel engines.

Greater Filtering Efficiency
The Donaldson air induction system is three times more efficient than the industry-leading cellulose media. The layered structure from PowerCore technology is totally non-metallic and allows for 99.95 percent efficiency. The highly efficient Donaldson PowerCore air filter is the only aftermarket induction system that is approved by Ford Motor Company.

Easy Installation
The new air induction system kit comes with the air filter box fitted with a PowerCore filter, air restriction gauge, temperature sensor, air inlet duct, battery blanket, battery box plate, necessary fasteners and complete installation instructions. The kit installs in 35 to 40 minutes and there are no extra parts to buy.

Greater Filter Capacity
More capacity means more engine protection. The PowerCore air filter has over 16 times more media surface area than washable filters, and 3 times the media surface of conventional filters. The PowerCore air filter has five times more dust holding capacity than washable/reusable air filters and twice the capacity over premium quality traditional filters. Greater capacity also means changing filters less often, even in more severe service situations. AMSOIL Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is an exclusive AMSOIL formulation of synthetic base oils and high performance additives that address the specific concerns of marine applications. Marine gear oils operate in environments subject to water contamination. The chart below demonstrates the ability of AMSOIL Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube to maintain designed qualities such as extreme pressure/anti-wear performance and resistance to foaming, even when subjected to 10% water contamination.

The Falex Procedure is measurement of a gear lube's extreme pressure and anti-wear properties. A high value in the Falex Extreme Pressure Test relates to extra extreme pressure protection. AMSOIL Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube is not affected by water and provides 50% more extreme pressure protection for long gear and bearing life.

The presence of foam in a lubricant disrupts oil film and promotes wear. Water contamination can increase the likelihood of foaming. Industry standard testing demonstrates zero foam in both new and water-contaminated AMSOIL Universal Synthetic Marine Gear Lube. Other conventional gear lubes can foam when mixed with water, as seen in the graph.
